Kelprojektas in Charge of Liepaja Airport Reconstruction Project

Kelprojektas, the largest Lithuanian company operating in the field of research and design of roads, bridges and ports, is in charge of preparation of the Liepaja International Airport reconstruction project in Latvia. Having established a company branch in Latvia last year, Kelprojektas won this tender together with the Latvian company Celuprojekts. The value of the project is nearly 400 thousand Lithuanian Litas. This is the second project which will be implemented by Kelprojektas in Latvia. According to the spokesperson of Kelprojektas, the company's success in winning the tenders in Latvia proves that the company is ready to expand to the neighboring markets.

"Participation in tenders is one of the main strategies of expanding to the Latvian market. This creates the opportunity to show more than half a century of experience and expertise, and compete with the local companies in the field of transport infrastructure design. We have entered the Latvian market only recently, but we are already on a roll and winning this bid is the undeniable proof," said Algimantas Medžiaušis, General Manager of Kelprojektas UAB.

The goal of the EU-funded Liepaja International Airport reconstruction project is to develop the infrastructure which would ensure long-term air traffic flows and create the necessary conditions for regular local and international flights.

The technical project prepared by the specialists of Kelprojektas will include the following: reconstruction of the airport runways, reconstruction and extension of the maneuvering area and taxiways, renovation of the airport drainage system, development of the lighting system and reconstruction of the apron and aircraft stands. The completion date of this project is estimated in the end of 2013.

Liepaja International Airport is one of the three main Latvian airports and is located 7 km away from the Liepaja resort town. The preceding reconstruction works of the airport were completed in 2000 when the passenger terminal was renovated.

"The reconstruction of this airport is especially important to our neighbors Latvians for creating the image of the city, ensuring the increasing the numbers of arriving tourists and developing the airport infrastructure. I strongly believe that the endeavor of our specialists will contribute to the successful development of this city which is the third largest city in Latvia. The trust is mutual and hence we have been entrusted this project of great strategic significance," noted Arūnas Daugėla, Spokesperson of Kelprojektas
